The Fonte Gaia (Happy Spring) is a fountain in Siena's Piazza del Campo. It owes its name to the joy expressed by the Sienese on the day of its inauguration.
While tourists gazed at the decorative panels featuring the Virgin and Child, Adam, a heraldic lion (Lion symbolizing the city of Siena) etc., this boy was attracted by the water flowing from the fountain. And he wasn't the only one, since under the blazing sun, this rare source of drinking water allowed us to fill up our bottles free of charge. An interesting advantage in a city where bottled drinking water is expensive.
